In March and April, the Estonian Road Museum invites older visitors to take part in a special programme called “A Nostalgia Boost”, offering a journey through time, shared activities, and great company. This is not just a museum visit with a guided tour, but a lively and engaging experience where memories and stories begin to flow naturally.

“This programme was created from the wish to offer a meaningful experience specifically for seniors. Many museum programmes are traditionally aimed at children and families, and older visitors may sometimes feel left out. A Nostalgia Boost was designed to value the life experiences and memories of older generations, and to encourage them to stay active, meet others, and take part in cultural life,” says Kersti Roslender, Head of Marketing at the Estonian Road Museum.

“We don’t want seniors to feel that everything in the museum is only for children. Their memories and experiences are also a valuable part of our road and traffic history,” Roslender adds.

The programme begins with a 45-minute guided tour featuring nostalgic vehicles, taking visitors back to the 1960s and 1970s. The selection has been carefully chosen from that era — including a PAZ bus, Zhiguli, Volga, Saurer bus, Lavka, and the Kuusalu petrol station — all of which evoke personal and diverse memories for many older guests.

“Everyone has their own story — someone rode a PAZ bus to school, someone owned a Zhiguli as their first car, someone remembers visiting a petrol station for the first time. These stories are not only personal memories, but also valuable information for the museum,” Roslender explains.

The programme continues with shared hands-on activities and traditional flavours. Participants will create a herbal tea blend called ‘Eternal Youth’ and make classic old-school truffles.

The experience ends with a coffee table gathering and relaxed conversation.
