The aim of the programme is to teach children how to tell the time from a clock and to improve their sense of time.

Measuring time and the passing of time. Time is strange thing – it never stays still. Sometimes it runs out very quickly and other times there’s too much of it. Let’s try to befriend time nevertheless. We will visit the Time Creature and take a look at various clocks. We will learn more about how a sundial works. We will compare how people used to tell time in the olden days and today, as well as what activities people used to fill their days with. We will learn the terms and expressions related to time. We will also play games that enhance skills for telling the time. Children will get to try their hand at puppet theatre.

Postal boy

The museum lesson will provide an overview of travelling and the transfer of post in mid-19th century Estonia. A tour of the permanent exhibition, introducing postal matters and the history of the carriage of post, will be led by a guide in a costume. When visiting the Varbuse horse-post station complex, children will learn about the local way of life, employees of the postal station and their duties, as well as various horse-drawn vehicles.

The programme also includes peeking into the travel suitcases of various characters from children’s books and of travellers from different eras, and children are encouraged to guess the owners of the suitcases. The children will also play fun games related to travelling and life at the postal station, a photographer will take exciting photos with an old camera.

School children get to write and seal a letter with sealing wax to then send the letter to a friend. In order to start a journey from the postal station, all participants will receive a journey pass filled in with a goose quill.
